Dried Brewers Grain - Feed Ingredient
Dried Brewer’s Grain is the solid byproduct remaining after the extraction of sugars during the beer brewing process, primarily from barley or other cereal grains. It consists mainly of grain husks, residual proteins, and fiber. After brewing, the wet grain is often dried to reduce moisture content and improve shelf life, resulting in Dried Brewer’s Grain (DBG).
In equine nutrition, DBG is used as a secondary protein and fiber source. It contains moderate levels of crude protein, digestible fiber, and some residual fat. While its energy density is lower than grains such as oats or corn, it provides fermentable fiber that can support hindgut function. It is often included in pelleted feeds or mash-type formulations.
DBG is generally palatable to horses and can be a cost-effective ingredient in balanced rations. However, its nutrient profile can vary depending on the brewing process and grain type used.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Dried Brewers Grain as an ingredient.
