Dried Lactobacillus salivarius - Feed Ingredient
Dried Lactobacillus salivarius refers to a feed ingredient containing non-viable or viable cells of the Lactobacillus salivarius species that have been cultured, harvested, and dehydrated. L. salivarius is a species of lactic acid bacteria naturally found in the gastrointestinal tract of humans and animals. It is commonly used in animal nutrition as a direct-fed microbial (DFM) or probiotic.
In equine feed applications, dried L. salivarius may be included to support microbial balance in the hindgut. It produces lactic acid and other metabolites that may influence gut pH and microbial populations. When used in viable form, it may compete with pathogenic bacteria through mechanisms such as competitive exclusion and production of antimicrobial compounds. In its dried, non-viable form, it may still contribute cell wall components such as peptidoglycans and lipoteichoic acids, which can have immunomodulatory effects.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Dried Lactobacillus salivarius as an ingredient.
