Ethanol - Feed Ingredient
Ethanol, also known as ethyl alcohol or grain alcohol, is a volatile, flammable liquid commonly produced through the fermentation of sugars by yeast. In feed manufacturing, ethanol itself is not directly used as a nutrient; however, it plays a key role in the production of certain feed ingredients, particularly byproducts from the ethanol production process.
One of the main feed-related byproducts of ethanol production is dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS), which are widely used in livestock and equine nutrition. Ethanol is also used as a solvent in the extraction of plant compounds and some flavorings that may be incorporated into equine supplements. However, the final product typically contains minimal to no residual ethanol due to evaporation during processing. It is not intentionally included in equine diets in liquid form.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Ethanol as an ingredient.
