Ethoxyquin - Feed Ingredient
Ethoxyquin is a synthetic antioxidant commonly used as a preservative in animal feeds to prevent the oxidation of fats, vitamins, and other sensitive ingredients. It helps stabilize feed ingredients by slowing down the degradation of polyunsaturated fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins, particularly vitamin A and vitamin E, thereby extending shelf life and maintaining nutritional quality. Ethoxyquin is typically included at low concentrations and is most often used in feeds containing added fats or fish meal, which are prone to spoilage.
In equine nutrition, ethoxyquin may be present in trace amounts in some commercial feed formulations, although its use has become more restricted in recent years due to safety concerns and regulatory scrutiny.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Ethoxyquin as an ingredient.
