Flaked Corn - Feed Ingredient
Flaked corn, also known as steam-flaked corn, is whole corn that has been exposed to steam and then rolled into thin flakes. The steaming softens the kernels and partially gelatinizes the starch, improving digestibility and nutrient availability for horses.
It is used in equine feeds as a high-energy grain ingredient. The flaking process increases palatability and reduces the risk of undigested starch reaching the hindgut compared to whole or dry-rolled corn.
Due to its high starch content, flaked corn should be introduced gradually and fed in controlled amounts, particularly in horses with metabolic issues or sensitivity to non-structural carbohydrates.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Flaked Corn as an ingredient.
