Fluorine - Feed Ingredient
Fluorine is a naturally occurring trace element that is commonly present in the environment, especially in soil, water, and forage. In animal nutrition, it is typically encountered in the form of fluoride compounds rather than as elemental fluorine, which is highly reactive and not found in biological systems.
In equine nutrition, fluorine is not considered an essential nutrient. While trace amounts may be ingested through water or feed, excessive intake can lead to fluorosis—a condition that affects bones and teeth, resulting in mottling, pain, or structural weakness. Horses are particularly sensitive to elevated fluoride levels, making it important to monitor sources such as contaminated water or mineral supplements.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Fluorine as an ingredient.
