Honey - Feed Ingredient
Honey is a natural sweet substance produced by bees from the nectar of flowers. It is primarily composed of simple sugars—mainly fructose and glucose—along with small amounts of water, enzymes, organic acids, amino acids, minerals, and antioxidants. In equine feed and supplement applications, honey is typically used in its raw or filtered liquid form.
In equine nutrition, honey is included for its palatability-enhancing properties and as a readily available source of non-structural carbohydrates (NSCs). It may be used in oral paste formulations, treats, or specialty feeds to improve taste, stimulate appetite, or deliver active ingredients. Due to its sugar content, it provides quick-release energy and may also function as a natural humectant to retain moisture in soft products.
