Inositol - Feed Ingredient
Inositol, also known as myo-inositol, is a naturally occurring carbohydrate compound often classified as a pseudovitamin. It is is not considered an essential nutrient for most animals. It plays a structural role in cell membranes and serves as a precursor for various signaling molecules involved in cellular processes, including nerve transmission and lipid metabolism.
In equine nutrition, inositol may be included in some feed or supplement formulations, particularly those aimed at supporting metabolic balance or nervous system function. It is generally added in small quantities and is not considered a primary dietary requirement, as it can be synthesized endogenously by most animals from glucose.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Inositol as an ingredient.
