Inula japonica - Feed Ingredient
Inula japonica, also known as Japanese elecampane, is a flowering plant native to East Asia and used traditionally in herbal medicine. It belongs to the Asteraceae family and is known for its aromatic roots and bioactive constituents.
In equine supplements, Inula japonica may be included for its potential respiratory and digestive benefits, attributed to compounds such as sesquiterpene lactones, flavonoids, and essential oils. These constituents have been studied in other species for their anti-inflammatory, expectorant, and antioxidant properties. However, there is limited scientific evidence on its use in horses.
