Iron Amino Acid Complex - Feed Ingredient

Iron amino acid complex is a chelated form of iron in which iron ions are bound to amino acids to enhance absorption and bioavailability. This form of iron is more efficiently utilized by the horse’s body compared to inorganic sources such as iron oxide or iron sulfate, as the chelation process helps improve its uptake in the digestive system.

In equine nutrition, iron is essential for oxygen transport, hemoglobin formation, and cellular metabolism. While iron is a necessary nutrient, most adult horses do not require supplementation due to the naturally high levels of iron present in forage and water. Excessive iron intake can interfere with the absorption of other essential minerals, such as zinc and copper, making careful dietary management important when considering additional iron supplementation.
