Iron Proteinate - Feed Ingredient
Iron proteinate is a chelated form of iron in which iron is bound to amino acids or proteins to enhance its bioavailability. It is commonly used in equine feeds and supplements as a source of iron, a trace mineral essential for oxygen transport, red blood cell production, and energy metabolism. Iron is a critical component of hemoglobin and myoglobin, which are necessary for oxygen delivery to tissues and muscle function.
Iron supplementation is rarely needed in horses, as they typically receive sufficient iron from forage, water, and soil exposure. Most equine diets naturally contain high levels of iron, and excess supplementation can lead to imbalances with other trace minerals, such as zinc and copper.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Iron Proteinate as an ingredient.
