Jiaogulan - Feed Ingredient
Jiaogulan, scientifically known as Gynostemma pentaphyllum, is a climbing vine native to China and other parts of Southeast Asia. It is a traditional herb used in East Asian medicine and is often referred to as “Southern Ginseng” due to its adaptogenic properties, though it is not botanically related to true ginseng.
The plant contains a variety of bioactive compounds, including gypenosides (structurally similar to ginsenosides), flavonoids, and polysaccharides. These compounds are typically extracted from the leaves and aerial parts of the plant.
In equine and companion animal supplements, jiaogulan may be included for its potential effects on circulatory function, stress resilience, and general vitality. It is supplied as dried leaf material, powder, or extract.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Jiaogulan as an ingredient.
