Juniper Berries - Feed Ingredient
Juniper berries are the seed cones of the Juniperus communis plant, a coniferous evergreen shrub belonging to the cypress family (Cupressaceae). Despite being called berries, they are technically modified cones with a fleshy appearance and a strong, aromatic scent. The dried berries are commonly used in traditional herbal medicine and culinary applications due to their volatile oils and distinct flavor.
In equine feed or supplement formulations, juniper berries are occasionally included in botanical blends in small quantities. They contain essential oils such as alpha-pinene and limonene, along with flavonoids and other phytochemicals that contribute to their characteristic aroma and reported physiological properties. Their use in horse products is typically limited to specialized herbal preparations.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Juniper Berries as an ingredient.
