L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (Vitamin C) - Feed Ingredient

L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate, also known as Ester-C or Vitamin C, is an ingredient commonly found in horse feeds and supplements. As a stable form of Vitamin C, it has higher bioavailability and is better absorbed and utilized by the horse’s body. Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that plays a critical role in the horse’s immune system and in the synthesis of collagen, a key component of connective tissues.

L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate is a form of Vitamin C that has been chemically modified, which makes it more stable than traditional Ascorbic Acid. The phosphate esterification of Ascorbic Acid results in an ingredient that is less susceptible to degradation, especially in the presence of heat and light.

While horses, unlike humans, can produce Vitamin C in their liver, there are circumstances where dietary supplementation may be beneficial. For example, horses under stress due to intense work, illness, old age, or poor nutrition may not produce enough Vitamin C to meet their requirements. Supplementation with L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate can ensure that these horses receive adequate levels of Vitamin C.
