L-Glutamine - Feed Ingredient
L-Glutamine is a non-essential amino acid that plays a critical role in protein synthesis, gut health, and immune function in horses. It is the most abundant amino acid in muscle tissue and serves as an energy source for rapidly dividing cells, particularly those in the intestinal lining and immune system. While horses can naturally produce L-Glutamine in sufficient amounts under normal conditions, supplementation may be considered during periods of stress, illness, or intense exercise when demand increases.
L-Glutamine is particularly important for maintaining gut integrity and supporting the health of the intestinal mucosa. However, since the equine diet—especially forage and high-protein feeds—already provides significant amounts of glutamine, supplementation in gut health products must be at sufficiently high levels to be effective.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain L-Glutamine as an ingredient.
