L-Isoleucine - Feed Ingredient
L-Isoleucine is an essential branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) that horses must obtain from their diet, as they cannot synthesize it internally. It is one of three BCAAs, along with L-Leucine and L-Valine, that play a role in protein synthesis and muscle metabolism.
L-Isoleucine is commonly found in protein-rich feed ingredients such as alfalfa, soybean meal, and flaxseed. It is sometimes included in equine supplements or specialized feed formulations to ensure adequate amino acid balance, particularly for horses with increased protein demands. Since L-Isoleucine is naturally present in most complete diets, direct supplementation is rarely needed on a well balanced diet.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain L-Isoleucine as an ingredient.
