Licorice - Feed Ingredient

Licorice is derived from the root of the Glycyrrhiza glabra plant and is used in equine nutrition primarily for its palatability. It contains glycyrrhizin, a compound that gives licorice its characteristic sweet taste, along with flavonoids, saponins, and other phytochemicals. These compounds contribute to its traditional use in herbal formulations.

In horse feeds and supplements, licorice is often included to enhance flavor and encourage feed intake, particularly for picky eaters.
