Malt Sprout - Feed Ingredient

Malt sprout is a byproduct of the malting process used in brewing and food industries, consisting primarily of the dried rootlets and sprouts of germinated barley grains. During malting, barley is soaked, germinated, and then dried to activate enzymatic processes. The sprouted material is subsequently removed and collected as malt sprout, which is then dried and processed for use as a feed ingredient.

In equine nutrition, malt sprout is used primarily as a protein and fiber source. It typically contains moderate levels of crude protein and digestible fiber, as well as residual sugars and enzymes from the malting process. It can contribute to both the energy and nutrient content of a feed formulation, and its palatable nature may enhance feed intake in some horses.
