Monoammonium Phosphate - Feed Ingredient
Monoammonium Phosphate (MAP) is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula NH₄H₂PO₄. It is a crystalline substance composed of ammonium and phosphate ions and is commonly used as a fertilizer in agriculture due to its high nutrient content, particularly phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N). In the context of animal nutrition, including equine feeds, it serves as a supplemental source of both phosphorus and non-protein nitrogen.
As a feed-grade mineral additive, Monoammonium Phosphate is used to correct phosphorus deficiencies in diets and to balance the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio, which is critical for skeletal development and metabolic functions in horses. The compound is highly soluble and has good bioavailability, making it an efficient way to deliver phosphorus in concentrated form. The nitrogen provided by the ammonium ion also contributes to the animal’s non-protein nitrogen pool but is generally more relevant in ruminant nutrition.
