Niacinamide - Feed Ingredient
Niacinamide, also known as nicotinamide, is a water-soluble form of vitamin B3. It is the amide form of niacin (nicotinic acid) and is used in feed formulations due to its stability.
In equine nutrition, niacinamide is included as a B-vitamin supplement to support metabolic functions, particularly those related to energy production and enzyme activity. It plays a role in the formation of NAD and NADP, coenzymes essential for cellular metabolism.
Horses can synthesize niacin from tryptophan, and deficiencies are uncommon under normal feeding conditions. However, supplementation may be used in performance or stressed horses. Niacinamide is generally well tolerated and safe at recommended levels.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Niacinamide as an ingredient.
