Oatfeed - Feed Ingredient
Oatfeed is a by-product of oat processing, consisting primarily of oat hulls and small oat fragments left after the production of oat flour or rolled oats. It is a fibrous ingredient with moderate energy content, containing a mix of digestible fiber, residual starch, and protein. However, the oat hulls, which make up a significant portion of oatfeed, are low in digestibility due to their high lignin content.
In equine nutrition, oatfeed is used as a source of dietary fiber to support gut health and digestive function. While it provides some energy and nutrients, its primary value lies in adding bulk to the diet. Due to the low digestibility of oat hulls, oatfeed is often included in pelleted feeds as a filler ingredient rather than a major nutrient source.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Oatfeed as an ingredient.
