Omega 3 Fatty Acids - Feed Ingredient
Omega-3 fatty acids are a group of polyunsaturated fats that play an essential role in equine nutrition. The primary omega-3 fatty acids that is most usually supplement in equine diets is alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). ALA is found in plant-based sources such as flaxseed, chia seeds, and pasture grasses.
Omega-3 fatty acids are included in equine diets to balance the omega-6 to omega-3 ratio, as many traditional feed ingredients, such as corn and vegetable oils, are higher in omega-6 fatty acids. While hays and pastures are both good sources of ALA, horses on a hay-based diet may have lower omega-3 intake compared to those on fresh pasture.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Omega 3 Fatty Acids as an ingredient.
