Organic Chromium - Feed Ingredient

Organic chromium refers to chromium that is chemically bound to organic molecules, typically amino acids or yeast-based carriers, to improve its bioavailability. Common forms include chromium picolinate, chromium propionate, and chromium yeast. In equine feed formulations, organic chromium is included as a trace mineral supplement to meet dietary chromium requirements.

Chromium plays a role in carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism by enhancing the action of insulin, thereby influencing glucose utilization and overall energy metabolism. Organic forms are favored over inorganic sources (such as chromium chloride) due to improved absorption and retention in the body. These forms are typically incorporated into vitamin-mineral premixes or performance-focused supplements.
