Organic Selenium - Feed Ingredient

Organic selenium refers to selenium that is bound to organic compounds, typically in the form of selenomethionine or selenized yeast. Unlike inorganic selenium sources such as sodium selenite or sodium selenate, organic selenium is more bioavailable and efficiently utilized by the horse’s body. It is also considered a safer source of selenium.

Selenium is an essential trace mineral required for antioxidant function, immune support, and muscle integrity. In equine diets, organic selenium is often preferred due to its higher absorption rate and incorporation into proteins, allowing for more sustained selenium availability compared to inorganic forms.
