Plant Extracts - Feed Ingredient
Plant extracts refer to concentrated substances derived from various parts of plants, such as leaves, roots, stems, seeds, or flowers. These extracts are obtained through mechanical, solvent-based, or thermal processes that isolate specific bioactive compounds, such as essential oils, polyphenols, flavonoids, alkaloids, and saponins. In equine feed and supplement formulations, plant extracts are typically included for their functional properties, which may include effects on palatability, digestion, microbial activity, or physiological responses. Examples of commonly used plant extracts in equine nutrition include yucca extract (used for odor control and gut health), ginger or turmeric extracts (used for their anti-inflammatory properties).
