Platycodon grandiflorus, commonly known as Balloon Flower, is a perennial herb native to East Asia. The name “balloon flower” refers to the shape of its flower buds, which resemble small balloons before they bloom. The root of the plant is the primary part used in traditional medicine and feed applications.
Balloon Flower root contains saponins (primarily platycodin D), polysaccharides, and flavonoids, which have been studied in other species for potential effects on respiratory function, inflammation, and immune modulation.
