Polygonum multiforum (Shou Wu Pian) - Feed Ingredient

Polygonum multiflorum, also known as Fallopia multiflora or by its traditional name Shou Wu Pian (He Shou Wu), is a perennial vine native to China. The root of the plant is used in traditional Chinese medicine and is often processed (cured with black bean juice) to reduce toxicity and enhance its purported health effects.

In equine products, Polygonum multiflorum is rarely used, and there is no published research evaluating its effects or safety in horses. Due to known hepatotoxicity in other species, particularly humans, its inclusion in equine feed or supplements should be approached with caution.

The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Polygonum multiforum (Shou Wu Pian) as an ingredient.
