Poria cocos - Feed Ingredient
Poria cocos, also known as Fu Ling, Hoelen, or tuckahoe, is a fungus harvested as a hardened sclerotium from the roots of pine trees in East Asia. It is processed by drying and milling to produce a stable powder that is incorporated into feed supplements. The processing methods aim to preserve its naturally occurring polysaccharides and triterpenes.
In equine nutrition, Poria cocos is used as a supplemental ingredient intended to provide additional non-nutritive compounds to the diet. Its inclusion is based on traditional practices and the idea that these compounds may help support digestive function by contributing to the overall balance of the gastrointestinal environment.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Poria cocos as an ingredient.
