Potassium Iodide - Feed Ingredient
Potassium iodide (KI) is an inorganic compound used as a dietary source of iodine in equine feed formulations. Iodine is an essential trace mineral required for the synthesis of thyroid hormones, which regulate metabolism, growth, and overall physiological function in horses. Potassium iodide is a water-soluble iodine salt that is commonly added to mineral premixes and fortified feeds to ensure adequate iodine intake.
In equine nutrition, potassium iodide helps maintain proper thyroid function, preventing iodine deficiency disorders such as goiter and metabolic imbalances. However, iodine must be provided within a healthy range, as both deficiency and excess can negatively impact thyroid health.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Potassium Iodide as an ingredient.
