Psyllium - Feed Ingredient
Psyllium refers to the seed husks of Plantago ovata, a plant native to parts of Asia and the Mediterranean. The husks are rich in soluble fiber and form a gel-like substance when mixed with water.
In equine nutrition, psyllium is primarily used to support digestive health, especially for sand-clearing in horses grazing on sandy soils. The gel formed by psyllium is thought to help bind sand and debris in the gut, aiding their passage through the digestive tract, although research on its efficacy has shown mixed results.
