Quercetin - Feed Ingredient
Quercetin is a naturally occurring plant flavonoid found in a variety of fruits, vegetables, and herbs, including apples, onions, berries, and leafy greens. It is classified as a polyphenolic compound and is known for its antioxidant properties.
When included in equine supplements, quercetin serves a functional role due to its biological activity rather than providing caloric or essential nutrient value. It is often derived from plant extracts and added in purified form. Quercetin is not required in the horse’s diet and is not associated with any known deficiency states. However, its inclusion in formulations is based on its potential to interact with cellular oxidative processes and inflammatory pathways.
