Red 40 - Feed Ingredient

Red 40, also known as Allura Red AC, is a synthetic azo dye commonly used as a food and feed colorant. It is produced through chemical synthesis and is approved for use in many countries, including the United States, where it is regulated by the FDA. Red 40 is water-soluble and provides a bright red to reddish-orange hue, often used to enhance the visual appeal of processed foods, beverages, medications, and animal feeds.

In equine nutrition, Red 40 may be included in small amounts to improve the visual appearance of commercial feed products, particularly pelleted or extruded feeds. While it does not contribute nutritional value, feed manufacturers may use Red 40 to ensure product consistency and consumer appeal.

The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Red 40 as an ingredient.
