Saccharomyces boulardii - Feed Ingredient

Saccharomyces boulardii is a strain of yeast classified as a probiotic. Though taxonomically a subtype of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, it is distinct in its physiological and probiotic properties. This yeast is commonly used in human and veterinary nutrition to support gut health.

In equine feed and supplement formulations, S. boulardii is used to help maintain or restore a balanced hindgut microbiota, particularly during or after gastrointestinal stress, antibiotic use, or dietary changes. It is known for its ability to survive passage through the stomach and colonize the hindgut, where it may help modulate the microbial environment.
