Sclerotium poriae (China Root) - Feed Ingredient
Clerotium poriae, commonly referred to as China Root or Poria, is a fungal ingredient derived from the sclerotium of Wolfiporia extensa (also known as Poria cocos). It is a subterranean, hardened fungal mass that has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. The sclerotium is harvested, dried, and ground into powder or extract form for use in supplements.
In equine products, Clerotium poriae may be included as a botanical component, typically as part of herbal blends. It contains polysaccharides, triterpenoids, and other bioactive compounds associated with water regulation and support of gastrointestinal or immune functions in other species. There is no specific research validating the efficacy or safety of Clerotium poriae in horses. Its use in equine supplements is limited and primarily anecdotal or extrapolated from studies in other species.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Sclerotium poriae (China Root) as an ingredient.
