Soy Protein concentrate - Feed Ingredient
Soy protein concentrate is a high-protein feed ingredient derived from defatted soybeans. It is produced by removing most of the soluble carbohydrates from dehulled and defatted soybean meal, typically through aqueous alcohol extraction, acid leaching, or moist heat treatment. This process yields a product with a protein content typically ranging from 65% to 70% on a dry matter basis.
In equine nutrition, soy protein concentrate is utilized as a plant-based protein source with a well-balanced amino acid profile, including notable levels of lysine, which is often the first limiting amino acid in equine diets. It is highly digestible and commonly used in formulations designed for growth, performance, or recovery. The reduction of non-protein components, such as oligosaccharides and antigenic factors, during processing also improves its digestibility and minimizes gastrointestinal disturbances compared to conventional soybean meal.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Soy Protein concentrate as an ingredient.
