Stevia Extract - Feed Ingredient
Stevia extract is derived from the leaves of the Stevia rebaudiana plant, a species native to South America. The extract contains high concentrations of steviol glycosides—especially rebaudioside A and stevioside—which are responsible for its intense sweetness, estimated to be 200 to 300 times sweeter than sucrose.
In equine feed and supplement products, stevia extract is used as a natural, non-caloric sweetener to enhance palatability. It may help improve feed acceptance, especially in formulations containing bitter or unpalatable ingredients. Stevia extract does not contribute to caloric intake or raise blood glucose, making it a useful flavoring option in diets formulated for horses with metabolic concerns.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Stevia Extract as an ingredient.
