Sunflower Seed Meal - Feed Ingredient
Sunflower seed meal is a byproduct of sunflower oil extraction, consisting of the ground and processed remains of sunflower seeds after the oil has been removed. It is a moderate-protein feed ingredient with a relatively high fiber content. Although it is higher in protein, its lower lysine levels can limit its use as a sole protein source.
In equine nutrition, sunflower seed meal is used as an alternative protein source in concentrate feeds and supplements. However, its amino acid limitations should be considered, and it is often combined with other protein sources to provide a more complete nutrient profile.
