Magnesium silicate is a naturally occurring mineral compound composed of magnesium, silicon, and oxygen. It appears in various forms, including talc and other silicate clays, and is often used in industrial and food applications for its anti-caking, absorbent, and flow-enhancing properties. In the context of feed manufacturing, magnesium silicate is typically used as a processing aid rather than a direct source of nutrition.

In equine nutrition, magnesium silicate may be included in feed or supplement formulations to improve texture, reduce moisture clumping, and stabilize mixtures by preventing the separation of powdered ingredients. It is generally considered inert and is not a significant source of bioavailable magnesium or silicon for horses. While it is not associated with toxicity at typical inclusion levels, its use is primarily functional rather than nutritional.
