Type-III Collagen - Feed Ingredient
Type-III collagen is a fibrillar collagen primarily found in extensible connective tissues such as skin, lungs, blood vessels, and the walls of hollow organs. It is often co-expressed with Type-I collagen and contributes to the structural integrity and elasticity of tissues.
In animal nutrition, Type-III collagen is typically derived from the same sources as other collagens—such as bovine, porcine, or marine tissues—and may be included in hydrolyzed or peptide form for improved digestibility. In equine supplements, Type-III collagen may be included alongside Type-I collagen to support connective tissue health.
While biologically relevant, there is limited research directly evaluating the specific benefits or outcomes of Type-III collagen supplementation in horses. Its use is based on extrapolation from other species and its known structural role in connective tissue.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Type-III Collagen as an ingredient.
