Vegetable Fat - Feed Ingredient

Vegetable fat, also referred to as vegetable oil or vegetable-derived lipid, is a concentrated energy source derived from plant-based oils. Common sources of vegetable fat used in equine nutrition include soybean oil, canola oil, rice bran oil, flaxseed oil, and coconut oil. These fats provide a dense, readily digestible source of calories for horses.

Vegetable fat is included in horse diets to increase caloric intake without adding excessive starch, making it beneficial for performance horses, hard keepers, and those with metabolic conditions that require low-starch diets. Different vegetable fats vary in their fatty acid composition, particularly in their omega-3 to omega-6 ratio. For example, flaxseed oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, whereas corn oil is high in omega-6. The balance of these fatty acids influences inflammation, immune function, and overall health.

The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Vegetable Fat as an ingredient.
