Yeast Culture - Feed Ingredient
Yeast culture refers to the dried and fermented product resulting from the growth of live yeast cells, most commonly Saccharomyces cerevisiae, on a nutrient-rich substrate. Unlike live yeast or yeast extract, yeast culture includes both the residual yeast cells (viable or non-viable) and the media on which the yeast was grown. It is not considered a probiotic, but rather a fermentation product with functional feed properties.
In equine feed formulations, yeast culture is used as a digestive aid and nutritional supplement. It contains fermentation metabolites, B-vitamins, peptides, amino acids, and cell wall components such as β-glucans and mannan-oligosaccharides. These components are thought to support microbial activity in the hindgut and improve fiber digestion and nutrient utilization.
