Zinc Proteinate - Feed Ingredient
Zinc proteinate is an organic trace mineral supplement in which zinc is bound to a protein, typically a peptide or amino acid. This chelated form enhances zinc’s bioavailability, allowing for better absorption and utilization compared to inorganic sources like zinc oxide or zinc sulfate.
In equine nutrition, zinc is essential for immune function, skin and hoof health, and enzyme activity related to metabolism. Zinc proteinate is often included in horse feeds and supplements to support coat condition, wound healing, and overall well-being. Proper zinc levels must be maintained in balance with copper, as excessive zinc intake can interfere with copper absorption, potentially leading to deficiencies.
