Alfalfa - Feed Ingredient

Alfalfa is a legume commonly processed into various forms, including hay, meal, and protein concentrate. Each form retains the characteristic nutrient profile of alfalfa, providing a balanced source of protein, calcium, vitamins, and fiber. Alfalfa hay is often used in equine diets where a forage with higher nutrient density is required compared to grass hays. It is incorporated in diets for performance horses, growing foals, lactating mares, and horses needing to increase body weight, and it is available in forms such as pellets or cubes for animals with dental limitations.

Alfalfa meal and protein concentrate are alternative processed forms that offer a more concentrated nutrient delivery. These forms can be blended into concentrate feeds to enhance the overall protein and energy content of the diet, supporting muscle development and maintenance without the bulk of forage.
