Beta Glucanase - Feed Ingredient
Beta Glucanase is an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of beta-glucans—complex carbohydrates found in the cell walls of cereals and other plant materials. It is typically produced through fermentation processes involving specific microbial cultures, which are optimized to yield an enzyme with consistent activity. The enzyme functions by cleaving the beta-1,3 and beta-1,4 glycosidic bonds within beta-glucan molecules, thereby reducing their molecular weight and viscosity.
In equine nutrition, Beta Glucanase is incorporated as a feed additive to improve nutrient availability and digestibility. By breaking down beta-glucans, the enzyme helps reduce anti-nutritional effects and enhances the release of encapsulated nutrients from high-fiber ingredients.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Beta Glucanase as an ingredient.
