Green Tea - Feed Ingredient
Green tea is made from the unoxidized leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant and is known for its high content of polyphenols, particularly catechins such as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). It also contains smaller amounts of amino acids, vitamins, and minerals, as well as naturally occurring caffeine.
In equine products, green tea extract may be included for its antioxidant properties or as part of botanical formulations. However, it is important to note that green tea naturally contains caffeine, a stimulant that can affect the central nervous system.
Caffeinated products should not be fed to horses unless specifically advised by a veterinarian, as caffeine is a regulated substance in competitive equine sports and may have undesirable effects in some horses.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Green Tea as an ingredient.
