Lactase - Feed Ingredient
Lactase is an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of lactose, a disaccharide sugar found in milk, into its monosaccharide components: glucose and galactose. It is produced naturally in the small intestine of young mammals to aid in the digestion of milk.
In equine feed formulations, lactase is not commonly used, as adult horses typically do not consume lactose-rich diets. Horses naturally produce less lactase as they mature, and adult horses often have limited capacity to digest lactose. However, lactase may be included in specialized digestive enzyme blends intended to aid in the digestion of dairy-derived ingredients in certain supplements or treats.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Lactase as an ingredient.
