Lignin Sulfonate - Feed Ingredient
Lignin sulfonate is a byproduct of the wood pulping process. It is derived from lignin, a natural polymer found in plant cell walls. It is commonly used in animal feed as a binder, pelletizing agent, and dust suppressant.
In equine nutrition, lignin sulfonate is primarily included in pelleted feeds to improve durability of the pellets. It helps bind feed particles together, ensuring that pellets maintain their shape during storage and handling. While it does not provide significant nutritional value, it can enhance feed consistency.
