A mineral premix is a blend of essential macro and trace minerals formulated to meet the nutritional requirements of horses. These premixes are commonly added to commercial feeds, supplements, or customized rations to ensure a balanced intake of minerals necessary for bone development, muscle function, metabolic processes, and overall health. The composition of a mineral premix varies depending on the intended use, the horse’s specific needs, and the base diet.

Mineral premixes typically contain macrominerals such as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, potassium, and sulfur, along with trace minerals like zinc, copper, manganese, iron, selenium, iodine, and cobalt. These minerals may be included in inorganic forms (such as oxides, sulfates, or carbonates) or more bioavailable organic forms (such as chelates or proteinates).
