Orange Oil - Feed Ingredient
Orange oil is an essential oil derived from the peel of oranges (Citrus sinensis) through cold pressing or steam distillation. This oil is rich in volatile aromatic compounds, particularly limonene, which imparts a distinct citrus aroma and flavor. Orange oil is commonly used as a flavoring agent, fragrance, or natural solvent in various food and industrial applications due to its pleasant scent and solvent properties.
In equine nutrition, orange oil may occasionally be included in feed or supplements primarily as a flavor enhancer or aromatic attractant to increase palatability. However, caution should be exercised when feeding essential oils to horses, including orange oil. Horses have sensitive digestive systems, and concentrated essential oils may lead to gastrointestinal irritation or disturbances if consumed in excessive quantities.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Orange Oil as an ingredient.
