Organic Zinc - Feed Ingredient
Organic zinc refers to a form of zinc that is chemically bound to organic molecules such as amino acids or peptides, improving its bioavailability compared to inorganic zinc sources like zinc oxide or zinc sulfate. Common forms of organic zinc used in equine nutrition include zinc proteinate, zinc chelate, and zinc methionine. These forms are more readily absorbed in the small intestine, reducing interactions with other minerals that may inhibit zinc uptake.
Zinc is an essential trace mineral required for various physiological functions, including immune support, skin and hoof health, and enzyme activity. It plays a key role in wound healing, coat quality, and keratin formation, making it particularly important for horses with high hair and hoof growth demands. While forages provide some zinc, supplementation is often necessary to meet dietary requirements.
